Stone
   
1.Hugh Stone was born in 1638. He came to America from England about 1647 and lived in the town of Warwick, Colony of Rhode Island until 1723. At that time he sold his farm and moved to Cranston, then to Providence. He lived a long, respected life and died at 90 or more years old. His wife was Abigail Busecot, daughter of Peter and ? Busecot in 1665. They had six children.

2.John Stone, the fourth child of Hugh and Abigail (Busecot) Stone was born in Warwick, RI in 1674 and lived there till 1712. He was a wheelwright and chair maker. He also built a house on his father's land. He died in 1754, married first ? Barnes; second Abigail Foster. Three children by first wife and eight by his second. We are descendants through the youngest son of the first wife.

3.William Stone, youngest son of John and ? (Barnes) Stone, was born in 1711 and married to Eleanor Westcott. They had five children.

           Jeremiah Stone, fourth child of William and Eleanor  (Westcott) Stone, was born in 1745 at Cranston Mashantatack, RI. He learned to be a tanner and currier. At 16 he married Dinah Knight, daughter of Nehemiah and ? Knight of Cranston, RI. There were nine children from this union, seven living to maturity. Some ten years after his marriage he bought land in the south part of Scituate, RI adjoining Coventry. He was a Justice of the Peace. He survived his wife by twenty years and married Mrs. Esther Fry, widow of Benjamin Fry in his old age. Jeremiah died when about eighty and is buried in a wall enclosed cemetery on the farm where he lived and died and is beside his father, William Stone.

Henry Stone, fourth child of Jeremiah and Dinah (Knight) Stone was born in 1770 in the south part of Scituate, RI. He lived most of his life on the farm of his father, Jeremiah. He married Lydia Blackmar and had 13 children. He was a deacon form almost 40 years in the church where his brother, Charles, was the pastor for nearly 46 years. Towards the close of his life, the homestead was sold and he moved to Providence, RI where he and his wife died. Burial was in the cemetery on the old farm.

Knight Stone, third child of Henry and Lydia (Blackmar) Stone, was born in RI in 1792 and died at Abington, Luzerne Co., PA. He married Zilpha Matteson, daughter of Job Matteson of Coventry, RI. They lived some ten years after their marriage in RI and then moved to an unproductive farm in Abington, PA where his death occurred at about 60 years of age. He was thrown from a carriage and died a few days afterwards. Seven children.

Knight Stone, fourth child of Knight and Zilpha (Matteson) Stone was born August 8, 1817 and died Oct. 12, 1893. He married on April 20, 1845 Fidelia Patience Clark, daughter of Benjamin Clark. Her birthdate is November 27, 1817. Twelve children.

Cenora Stone, eighth child of Knight and FIdelia Patience (Clark) Stone, was born Oct. 16, 1859. She married on May 11, 1887 Joshua Francis Potter, son of Francis Orlando and Lucinda (Gardner) Potter. Seven sons and one daughter.

Ralph Claude Potter, fifth son of Joshua Francis and Cenora (Stone) Potter was born May 20, 1896 at Thompson, PA. He married Lois May Sterling, daughter of Emerson Llewellyn and Jennie Delphia (Eastman) Sterling at Montrose, PA on Dec. 24, 1918. They had a daughter Lura Marie and a son Lloyd Carl Potter.

Children of No. 1 Hugh Stone, above, were: Abigail born in 1667; Hugh born in 1669 married Mary Potter; Peter born Jan. 20, 1671 married Elizabeth Shaw; John born 1674 ; Anne born 1679 married William Potter; and George born 1681. 

Second Generation

Ch:ildren of No. 2 John Stone (son of Hugh) above, by his first wife were: John born 1705 married ? Olney; George born 1709 married Rest Clark; William born 1711 married Eleanor Westcott. Children by his second wife were: Anna born 1716 married William Colgrove; Abigail born 1718 married Amos Hammond; Jonathan born 1780 married Elizabeth Westcott; Alice born 172? married Daniel Fiske; Benjamin born 1725 married Mary Strait; Joseph born 1727 married Anne Kent; Lydia born 1780 married Wilson Spencer; Prudence born 1782 married Robert Vaughn. 

Third Generation:

Children of No. 3 William Stone (son of John, grandson of Hugh) above, were: William born 173? married Lydia Wescott; Freelove born 1736 married Ephraim Westcott; Jabez born 1740 married  1st Sarah Taylor and 2nd Mrs. W. Greene; Jeremiah born 1745 married Dinah Knight; James born 1753 married Rebecca Shelden. 

Fourth Generation:

Jeremiah Stone (William, John, Hugh) born in 1745 at Cranston, Mashantatack, RI and learned the trade of the tanner and currier a business which he follow, more or less, most of his life. When but sixteen year old he married Dinah Knight, daughter of Nehemiah and ? Knight of Cranston, RI. Some ten years after his marriage Mr. Stone bought a tract of land in the south port of Scituate, RI adjoining Coventry. Here he passed a long life, raising a family of seven children who reached maturity. He was much respected in the town and was for some years a Justice of the Peace. Mr. Stone survived his wife some twenty years and in his old age he married Mrs. Esther Fry, widow of Benjamin Fry of Foster, RI. Mr. Stone died when about eighty and his remains rest in a wall-enclosed cemetery on the farm where he lived and died, and by the side of his father, William Stone. His children by his first wife were: Freelove born 1761 married Ephraim Westcott; Charles born in 1764 married Rachel Knight; Hannah born 1766 married Darius Knight; Henry born 1770 married Lydia Blackmar; Abigail born 1773 married John Whipple; Mercy born 1775 married George Knight; Dinah born 1778 married Silas Weaver; Jeremiah born 1781; Knight born 1784.

Fifth Generation:

Henry Stone (Jeremiah, William, John, Hugh) born in 1770 in the South part of Scituate, RI where he lived almost to the close of life on the same farm with his father, Jeremiah Stone. Toward the close of his life the old homestead was sold and the family moved to Providence, RI where he and his wife both died. Their remains now rest in the cemetery on the old farm. He married Lydia Blackman. Mr. Stone was a man of much moral worth, of a strong religious faith and was Deacon for nearly forty years of the same church of which his brother Charles Stone was pastor for nearly forty-six years. Henry's children were: George born 1788 married 1st Mary Carpenter and 2nd Mrs. Mahala Mason; Waldo born 1790 married Betsey Johnston; Knight born 1792 married Zilpha Matteson; Betsey born 1794; Ellen born 1796 married Owen Arnold; Cyrene born 1798 married Joseph Burlingame; Alma born in 1800 married Richard Stone; Charissa born 1803 died 1821; Roby born 1805 married joseph Briggs; Melina born 1808 married 1st Charles Westcott, 2nd Jonathan West; Rachel K. born in 1810 married 1st William Andrew, 2nd George Brownell; Henry born 1812 married Louise Johnson; charles G born 1815 married Sophia P. Sprague.

Sixth Generation: 

Knight Stone (Henry, Jeremiah, William, John, Hugh) born 1792 at Rhode Island died at Abington, Luzerne Co., PA married Zilpha Matteson, daughter of Job and " Matterson of Coventry, RI. Mr. Stone remained some time, ten years or so after his marriage in RI then moved to Abington, PA where he engaged in farming. He settled on a somewhat unproductive farm, for that region, on which he lived till the close of his life which happened when he was about sixty, being thrown from a carriage and so injured that he died in a few days. His children were: Lydia born 1811 married F.C. Calvin; Job M. born 1813 married Elizabeth Dicker; Orrilla born 1815 married John Bailey; Knight born Aug. 8, 1817 married Fidelia Clark; Abigail born 1820 married Henry McClarrin; Carissa born Jan. 9, 1824 married Albert Whitman.

Seventh Generation:

Knight Stone (Knight, Henry, Jeremiah, William, John, Hugh) born Aug. 8, 1817 died October 12, 1893, married April 20, 1845 Fidelia Patience Clark, daughter of Benjamin Clark who was born Nov. 27, 1817. Their children were: Mary E. born jan. 27, 1846 married William Doyle; Alvira born Aug. 11, 1847 married Lemuel N. Potter; Noel born May 13, 1849 married Marilla A. Stearns; Charles E. born April 13, 1851 married 1st Rosetta Sartell, 2nd Susie Ashley; Fernando Cortes born Feb. 2?, 1853 married Philena Potter; Albert W. born Nov. 21, 1854 married Frances Warner; Nicholas born Dec. 18, 1856 married Jeannette M. Ridgeway; Cenora born Oct. 16, 1859 married Joshua F. Potter; Benjamin F. born aug. 7, 1861 died Oct. 19, 1861; Alzada M. born June 2, 1864 died Dec. 29, 1933; Rancelo born Sept. 7, 1866 married Frances E. Manzer; Urbane Eugene born Feb. 24, 1870 married  Mrs. Mary Luscomb.
